The Indian capital markets regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), on Friday, 3 October 2025, announced that it is not considering any regulatory frameworks for family offices, according to an official announcement.
The market regulator announced that it has come to their attention that there have been ‘certain media reports’ which suggest that Sebi is allegedly considering regulatory oversight of family offices.
“It has come to Sebi attention that certain media reports have suggested that Sebi is considering regulatory oversight of family offices,” said Sebi in its official announcement on Friday.
Are these reports factually incorrect?
Sebi called out the media reports on potentially considering any regulatory frameworks for family offices as ‘factually incorrect.’
“These reports are factually incorrect,” said Sebi in an official announcement.
They reiterated that the regulator is not examining or pursuing any framework for the family offices as of now.
“Sebi is not examining or pursuing this matter at present,” said the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi).
What does family office do?
A family office is an entity which is formed to manage the wealth and investments for high-net-worth individuals (HNIs) and their families. These entities offer a wider range of financial services to investors.
These family offices offer services like managing their clients’ budgets, insurance, charitable giving, wealth transfer planning, tax services, etc. In the case of family-run businesses, complex aspects such as structures and succession planning may utilise the help of family offices to manage their assets and better plan for their future.
